Gas Leaf Blower Vacuum

When looking to buy a gas lead blower vacuum, there are many different factors you will want to consider. This article will get you started so you can make an informed decision regarding which type of leaf blower to buy according to your specific needs. The more you know about what you want/need in a blower, the better your chances will be of purchasing a product that will serve you well and last a long time so you won't need to replace it down the road.

Makita Cordless Saw

Although there are three different types of leaf blowers, electric, cordless, and gas-powered, the latter is probably the best. It does depend though on which kind you really need. You will have to consider how much you will be using your leaf blower on average as well as each individual time. This is especially important to take into consideration if you are thinking of purchasing a cordless leaf blower, as these do tend to have short battery lives and won't last long if you plan on being outside all day blowing leaves around the yard.

Makita Cordless Saw

Gas-powered leaf blowers get the job done well and won't quit on you in the middle of your task. There are many different types of blowers however and they are all made by different companies. It's critical that you decide which company to go with, because they are more than just a name. The company that makes the leaf blower is a symbol of how well it is going to work. You should do a little bit of research on the internet first to see which are generally considered to be the most trustworthy so you end up getting as much as you can for your money.

If you spend a lot of time blowing leaves in the Fall, then purchasing a gas leaf blower vacuum is a considerably wise choice. As long as you keep it filled up, you shouldn't have any problems. Gas-powered blowers generally don't have a lot of mechanical problems either, so you know that your blower will be good to use for years to come. It's good to keep your options open as far as where you purchase your leaf blower. You can go down to your local hardware store to look at the wide selection or go online to see more. You might be surprised at the deals you can find on leaf blowers online. Not only can you find a wider variety, but they are generally cheaper online in some places than in a hardware store. Buying a new leaf blower is about the quality of the product as well as the amount you spend on it.

Ryobi 18v Cordless Drills Review - It's Cheap, But Effective?

Is the Ryobi 18v Cordless Drill worth the money or not? Here's a quick review of the 4 most important features to help you find out:

Makita Cordless Saw

#1) Price

Makita Cordless Saw

Obviously with the 18 volts you'd expect to pay a lot of money-but it's SURPRISINGLY CHEAP. It costs just 0.

Just to give a comparison...

There are tons of 18vs out there selling for 0-600 so this is a real bargain. But as you might expect it's not nearly as powerful or durable as those ones.

#2) Features

The Ryobi 18v Cordless Drill comes with 2 bits, a flashlight, and 2 battery packs... all the things you'd expect in this price range. It has a nice tray that keeps your screws while working, and it comes with some high quality driver bits as well.

#3) Batteries

The batteries do tend to go very quickly... often times in 12 months or less of using them. And remember that new batteries aren't cheap. Just make sure you get a warranty on them... some places offer 1 to 2 year warranties on the batteries which you might need.

#4) Power

Don't be fooled by the 18v... this one is more comparable to most 12 to 14vs. It does go to 1600 RPMs which is respectable... but the amount of torque is somewhat lacking for a machine of this voltage.

Conclusion

On the whole this is a good machine with decent power... but it's more for homeowners than the construction site. If you are a professional would recommend a Milwaukee or Makita. But for a homeowner the Ryobi 18v Cordless Drill is a reliable option. It's certainly not going to cut through steel or metal... but it will do the trick with most wood.

Husky Tile Saw

The Husky 7 inch wet tile saw, model number THD750L will probably cost you near 0 at most retailers. I bought mine at Home Depot and I'm happy to say I was overall very satisfied with the purchase but there are a few things I would take points away from.

Makita Cordless Saw

First, the good news is the Husky tile saw probably cut as well as more expensive models on the 3/8 inch tile I was cutting for my living room project. The cuts were smooth and required little effort to make. I also appreciated that the water reservoir was large enough so that I didn't have to make refills until after many cuts. Furthermore, there was no clogging in the saw.

Makita Cordless Saw

The main negative for the Husky wet saw was it's laser guide. Basically all the laser guide amounted to was a feature to draw you in and perhaps give the Husky an edge over other brands. The guide stopped working after just a few cuts because of a short circuit. When it was working, the line wasn't precise enough to rely. To make a cut off a laser line, you need a razor thin width and that wasn't the case with the Husky guide. If you're pondering a laser guide for this model or another, I will say that it helps at night.

Overall, I give this tile cutting saw a solid rating. I didn't need to force the tile through the saw blade and it had enough horsepower to easily handle basic home improvement jobs.

Chain Saw Cutting Problems

Chain saws are wonderful tools when they are cutting properly. Most people know that when a chain saw gets dull it does not cut very easily, and in fact can become quite dangerous. But, there are a number of other problems that can cause your chain saw to cut poorly. Most of these issues can be traced back to improper sharpening procedures or poor maintenance.

Makita Cordless Saw

When you're cutting with your chain saw, if it cuts crooked or at an angle this is generally an indication that the teeth have been improperly filed. Either they were filed at the wrong angle, or every tooth was not filed the same amount and with the same pressure. If filing is not the cause of a chainsaw pulling to one side or the other, then it could be the bar or the sprocket at the far end of the bar are in poor condition and need maintenance or straightening.

Makita Cordless Saw

If you have a newly sharpened chain saw and it dulls quickly, usually this is caused by thin cutting edges resulting from too much file pressure or low angle when sharpening your chain saw. Your chainsaw will need to be refiled using less pressure, as well as lowering the angle of attack and checking the height of the depth gauges.

If the chain grabs and cuts rough the saw sharpener probably induced a forward hook on the teeth as a result of too much pressure from the top of the file. A good indication that the depth gauges are set incorrectly is when the chain digs too far into the wood. You will need to lower the height of the depth gauges in most cases. If you detect overheating of the chain you may not have enough bar oil, or the saw sharpener created a backslope on the teeth during the last sharpening.

Drive link problems on the chain can result in severe problems like the chain jumping off the bar. Incorrect chain tension can cause this, and you may have to replace bent drive links on your chain. Also, excessive chain chatter can be caused by improper sprocket fit, and result in front or back peened drive links.

Whenever you identify these kinds of cutting problems with your chain saw you should immediately remove the bar and chain from the saw and inspect carefully. There are usually only a couple of nuts to remove the chain and separate the bar from the saw. This will allow you to inspect the parts for dangerous defects and keep your saw in good condition.

Crown Molding - Quick Guide to Spring Angles

When it comes to cutting crown molding on a sliding compound miter saw, spring angle plays a key part in getting it right. If you don't understand "spring", you need to read this.

Makita Cordless Saw

Making crown cuts on a sliding compound miter saw is tricky enough as it is, but when spring angle comes into the equation, it's yet another thing that can lead to mistakes and a waste of good wood. You need to know what spring angle your molding has, but first of all you need to know how to choose the right type for your room.

Makita Cordless Saw

If you are going to the trouble of cutting your own crown molding, the least you can do is choose the appropriate type for the height of your ceiling, and that is where spring type comes into play. The industry makes three common types -- 38 degrees, 45 degrees and 52 degrees. Basically, the lower the ceiling, the lower the angle to choose. This is because the spring is the angle at which the molding sits away from the wall.

The best angle at which to view molding is face-on. In a room with a lower ceiling, the average person's eye is closer to the molding, so to get a face-on view, the molding has to be angled more steeply, which means that the lower 38 degree spring angle is best. Conversely, for a room with a higher than average ceiling, the crown molding needs to be angled more shallowly because the average viewer will be lower in relation to it. The molding basically needs to point down towards the viewer more, so the higher 52 degree spring is best. For an average ceiling, the normal 45 degree spring will be the optimal choice.

Now, if you have already purchased your molding, and you didn't pay any attention to what spring factor it was, you are going to have a hard time cutting it on your sliding compound miter saw, especially if you intend to cut it flat using a bevel setting on a sliding compound saw. So, it's important to find out what spring your molding has before you start.

A quick way to determine the spring angle is to take a piece of waste wood and make a clean 45 degree miter cut. Now take a piece of the crown molding and press the angled section at the back of the bottom part (the part with most decoration) against the fence of your compound sliding miter saw. The fence is acting as the wall of your room and you are looking at the molding from above, as if it were sticking out from the wall.

Now, drop the 45 degree scrap wood into the gap behind the molding. If it won't fit, you have 38 degree molding; if there's a gap, you have 52 degree molding; and if it fits perfectly, you have 45 degree molding. It's as simple as that.

The Porter Cable PCL180DK 2 18v Half Inch Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill

It can be a little daunting when you are looking to purchase a cordless drill for your home or even for your professional tasks. If you are looking for reliability plus utility, The Porter-Cable cordless drill is an awesome piece of tool that is both light and comfortable yet delivers the performance you would expect from a handheld cordless drill. It is impressive despite its size and you will find that this cordless drill is really handy if you plan to use it around the house or at your workplace.

Makita Cordless Saw

Probably the most important feature one would look for aside for its obvious functions is its battery; No one wants to be stuck with a dead battery when you have a very important task at hand. The cordless drill comes with Li-ion batteries which can be a real winner when you consider the battery life and the short charging time. It takes less than sixty minutes to charge the batteries and Li-Ion batteries holds the charge much longer than Ni-cad battery. There will be no sudden halt when the battery starts to lose its charge but instead you will experience occasional loss of power, which is a good indicator that it is time to recharge those batteries.

Makita Cordless Saw

As a powerful 18 V cordless drill, his drill delivers the function and performance one would expect from an 18 V handheld drill. It delivers the torque and power and yet it is good enough for those simple tasks which require les power to get the job done right.

This cordless drill comes with a two-speed ½ inch keyless chuck. There are varying levels of adjustable speeds that you can use, which makes this cordless drill a real winner. You would need different levels of speed to deal with different materials and this cordless drill comes with a 24-positon torque adjustments. Low levels of speed would be perfect for jobs around the house such as screwing and unscrewing the toys or kitchen utensils. If you use a high speed on such tasks, you would strip the head off the screw.

There is one unique feature of the Porter-Cable cordless drill. There is an LED light that is installed above the trigger. However, the position of the light makes it less useful than it should be. The position that it is placed makes the tip of the drill lies in the shadow of the keyless chuck, If the Porter-Cable manufacturers could move this into a more favorable position, this feature would come in handy indeed.

Porter-Cable is a trusted name when it comes to reliable power tools. The Porter-Cable cordless drill is a very powerful tool which makes handling difficult tasks exceptionally easy. It retails for 9.99 which makes it affordable for anyone looking to purchase a reliable cordless drill for jobs around the house or even at the workplace. You can get your own Porter Cable cordless drill from the local hardware stores or you can choose to shop online which makes it ideal if you are looking for the best prices around.

Makita High Pressure Air Tools Explained

Ever since the advent of the very first pneumatic tools, they have been constantly evolving. Perhaps you may have had a chance to get a look at one of the earlier cumbersome 16 penny nail guns that had huge pumpkin heads and now we come to makita high pressure air tools.

Makita Cordless Saw

Does this Mean Your Standard Tools are Obsolete?

Makita Cordless Saw

So what's the deal anyway? After all, the last time you checked your compressor and guns were working just fine. What does this new generation of technological advancements bring to your job site that your truckload of tools don't already?

Lighter More Compact and Far More Powerful

The fact is that HP nailers and compressors don't really offer anything new. They simply do what standard air tools do now, only they do it a heck of a lot better. This new generation of tools is also lighter, more compact, and at the same time more powerful.

Makita High Pressure Air Tools are Better Balanced

For instance, because HP guns run at a substantially higher PSI, they require smaller piston and drive systems. As a result, these nailers now tend to be about 30% smaller and lighter than standard pressure nail guns. The lower weight factor also enables them to be better balanced as well.

Nailing Flush 16s into Glu-Lams and LVLs

This new generation of guns also do a much better job of driving nails. Once again, the higher PSI means that nails can be driven flush into even the hardest materials, and at a far higher rate of consistency. Even nailing 16s flush into dense engineered glu-lams and LVLs is no problem.

No More Pounding Down 8 Penny Nail Heads

Also with their higher PSI, there's no need to go back over roofs, floors and sheer paneling, pounding down nail heads. The flush nail sets on the tips of the guns function the same, so under high pressure 8 penny nails are consistency driven flush every time.

Check Out High Pressure Compressors

Oil-less pressure compressor pumps also function far more efficiently using less power, and that of course means fewer trips to the electrical panel box to flip breaker switches. High PSI air also takes up less space, so a 1 ½ tank on a high pressure air compressor handles the same air load as a 5 gallon tank on a standard compressor.

Run the Guns You Have Now Off a High Pressure Compressor

In fact the Makita high pressure compressor features two sets of air output plugs. Two for high PSI tools and the other two are for standard air guns. It's simply a mater of adjusting the PSI down to a lower level on the two that supply air for standard guns.

Makita High Pressure Air Tools are Here to Stay

So Makita high pressure tools are here to stay, but just like technological advancements of this type in the past, it's going to be a gradual change. People aren't going to toss out their perfectly good standard air tools they have now, just to make the switch.

Chainsaw Sharpening Guide - Maintain Your Chainsaw for Peak Performance

Your chainsaw is a useful tool around the garden, but only when it is kept in tip-top condition. As with any garden tool, regular maintenance of your saw, including chainsaw sharpening, is vital. Sharpening a chainsaw can be done at home using a simple, readily-available chainsaw sharpening kit costing just a few pounds.

Makita Cordless Saw

Why chainsaw sharpening is important

Makita Cordless Saw

Sharpening a chainsaw is essential for its efficient, safe operation. A blunt chainsaw is an inefficient tool - it won't cut effectively and it will take a lot more effort to get the cuts you want. Professionals pride themselves on maintaining their saw for peak performance and so should you - hence this chainsaw sharpening guide.

How can you tell if sharpening is needed?

Professionals recommend two simple checks for the condition and sharpness of your chainsaw chain. First of all, there's the self-feed test: blunt chains won't self-feed and will have to be actively 'pushed' into the wood. Secondly, look for telltale small wood chips that resemble sawdust. (rather than the chunky woodchips associated with a sharp chain). If either applies, it's time to sharpen the chainsaw chain.

How to sharpen a chainsaw

Chainsaw sharpening, while time-consuming and fiddly, can be done at home using a readily available kit. Many professionals also recommend the use of a suitable resin solvent to help maintain the life and performance of the chain. Typically, the kit for sharpening a chainsaw includes the following:

A chainsaw file gauge A round chainsaw file A flat file for the depth gauge on the chain's teeth.

Sharpening the chain involves cleaning the chain with a stiff brush, then systematically filing the top plate, side plate and depth gauge on each of the chain's teeth. Important safety precautions include the following:

Switching the saw off before work Sharpening the saw with the chainsaw engine cold. Wearing safety gloves - protects fingers when sharpening the chainsaw Working on a flat, sturdy, well-lit surface

Is sharpening a chainsaw really a DIY activity?

Chainsaw sharpening is well within the capability of a domestic user, providing you follow the instructions that come with the sharpening kit and apply commonsense safety procedures. If in doubt about your ability as a chainsaw sharpener, you should always seek professional advice and help. Remember too, that the chain isn't the only chainsaw component requiring regular maintenance - other components will also need routine attention.
